How Much Does a Hair Transplant Cost in the UK?

Hair transplant surgery in the UK typically costs between £3,000 and £9,000, with the number of grafts being the main variable.
Pricing in this industry is genuinely confusing, partly because clinics quote in different units and partly because some deliberately quote a headline figure that is not the final figure. This guide explains how pricing works, what should be included and what questions to ask.

Paying for treatment
Most UK clinics offer finance spread over twelve to sixty months, subject to status. Ask for the total repayable amount rather than just the monthly figure, and check whether an interest-free option exists over a shorter term.

Frequently asked questions
Why do UK prices vary so much between clinics?
Mainly graft count, who performs the surgery, and what is bundled in. A quote that includes surgeon-led work, medication and eighteen months of in-person reviews will sit above one that covers the surgical day alone. Ask each clinic for a written itemisation and compare like for like.
Is a hair transplant available on the NHS?
Only in very limited circumstances, typically reconstruction after trauma, burns or cancer surgery. Hair restoration for male pattern baldness is considered cosmetic and is not routinely funded.
Do I pay per graft or per session?
It depends on the clinic. Per-graft pricing means your final cost is not fixed until the count is agreed. Package pricing gives certainty. Either can be fair, provided the clinic is transparent about what is included.
Should I pay a deposit before consultation?
No. A deposit should only follow a face-to-face assessment and a written plan. Be cautious about any clinic asking for money before a surgeon has examined your scalp.
Is finance available?
