The technical challenge
Temporal hair grows at an extremely acute angle, lying almost flat against the scalp and pointing downward and backward. It is also finer than hair elsewhere on the scalp.
- Grafts must be placed at a near-flat angle to lie correctly
- Only fine, single-hair grafts are appropriate in the temporal point
- Direction changes across the small area and must be followed precisely
- Over-dense placement here looks artificial very quickly
What is involved
Temporal restoration usually requires 600 to 1,200 grafts for both sides, often combined with hairline work. Sessions are shorter than full transplants, commonly four to six hours.

How many grafts do temples need?
Typically 600 to 1,200 for both sides. If combined with hairline restoration, the total commonly lands between 1,800 and 2,600 grafts.
Can temples be treated on their own?
Yes, and for men whose loss is confined to the temporal points this can be an efficient use of donor supply. Your surgeon will check that the surrounding hairline is stable enough to make isolated temple work sensible.
Why do transplanted temple hairs sometimes stick out?
Because they were placed at too steep an angle. Temporal hair lies almost flat against the head. Correct angling is the entire skill of this area, and it is a common failing in rushed or technician-led work.
Will it look natural if my temples are very receded?
Usually yes, provided the design respects your facial shape and age. Very aggressive rebuilding of a juvenile temporal point in a man in his forties tends to look artificial, so the design is deliberately restrained.
